Various mandates have led us to work on design projects and to carry out legal and technical expertise on a wide range of structures, across Quebec and internationally. Structura is also engaged where structural engineering can improve the lot of entire communities.<\/p>\r\n<h3>Inspection and assessment of the Jacques Cartier Bridge&#8217;s load-carrying capacity<\/h3>\r\n<h4>Montr\u00e9al and Longueuil<\/h4>\r\n<p>From 2015 to 2018, Structura performed a complete inventory of the entire Jacques\u00a0Cartier Bridge, a general inspection of the entire bridge as well as a detailed inspection of the five overpasses on the south approach, in addition to the rope access inspection of the main section (Section\u00a07) and Sections\u00a03 and 6. In 2015, the inspection of Section\u00a07 served as a reference for the lighting of the bridge for Montr\u00e9al&#8217;s 375th anniversary.<\/p>\r\n<p>Structura&#8217;s engineers supervised multi-beam ultrasonic surveys and prepared plans and estimates for repair work. Structura also assessed the load-carrying capacity of five overpasses in Section\u00a01, the bicycle path in Section\u00a09 and participated in the assessment of Sections\u00a03, 6 and 7.<\/p>\r\n<ul data-height=\"390\" data-width=\"390\" data-shape=\"square\">\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/photo-projet-inspection-signalisation-montreal-168-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Inspection of sign gantries and electrotechnical structures Montr\u00e9al and surrounding areas<\/h4>\r\n<p>Montr\u00e9al and surrounding areasSince 2017, Structura has performed annual inspections of highway sign superstructures and electrotechnical structures for the Minist\u00e8re des Transports du Qu\u00e9bec (MTQ). The inspection engineer teams carry out these inspections safely and without creating road obstructions by using climbing techniques. Our traffic management specialists coordinate these operations.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-inspection-chateaux-eau-232-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Inspection of water towers<\/h4>\r\n<p>Montr\u00e9al and surrounding areasIn 2021, Structura performs detailed inspections in places where no boom lift can go, thanks to its teams of rope access engineers. Rope access techniques allow engineers to perform hands-on inspections and ultrasonic measurement tests on all surfaces of iconic structures.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/photo-projet-inspection-echangeur-st-pierre-montreal-227-084-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>General inspection of the Saint-Pierre interchange and the overpasses at the Mercier Bridge approach in Montr\u00e9al<\/h4>\r\n<p>Montr\u00e9alIn 2016 and 2020, Structura performed the general inspection of the Saint-Pierre interchange and overpasses at the Mercier Bridge approach for the MTQ. With a number of teams equipped to carry out work in confined spaces, Structura mobilized its most experienced engineers to inspect these complex structures in terms of both access and behaviour.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-inspection-rem-211-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Detailed inspection of three railway bridges for the REM<\/h4>\r\n<p>Deux-Montagnes, Laval et Montr\u00e9alEIn 2020, as part of construction work for the REM, Structura performed detailed inspections of three bridges over the Rivi\u00e8re-des-Prairies and Rivi\u00e8re-des-Mille-\u00celes. A combination of boom lift and rope access inspections allowed engineers to access each component of the bridge, conduct accurate surveys and make recommendations.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-inspection-pont-avoca-203-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Detail and dimensional survey of the Pont d&#8217;Avoca bridge<\/h4>\r\n<p>Rouge RiverIn 2019, as part of the repair work on the Pont d&#8217;Avoca over the Rouge River, Structura performed a detailed inspection and dimensional survey of the bridge, making it possible to restore the original plans, assess the load-carrying capacity of the members and trusses, and produce plans and estimates.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-inspaection-sous-marine-mtq-191-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Underwater inspection of 44 MTQ bridges<\/h4>\r\n<p>Montr\u00e9al and surrounding areasIn 2018 and 2019, Structura performed underwater inspections of 44 MTQ bridges in the Montr\u00e9al area, including the Galipeau, Vachon, Papineau-Leblanc, Pie-IX, Lachapelle, Viau and Louis-Bisson bridges. In partnership with the MTQ and ISM3D, Structura developed a 3D inspection pilot project which can be replicated in other currents inaccessible to divers.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-inspection-sous-marine-ferroviaire-176-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Underwater inspection of 12 railway bridges<\/h4>\r\n<p>C\u00f4te-NordIn 2020, ArcelorMittal contracted MISTRAS and Structura to perform underwater inspections on the piers of 12 railway bridges along the Fermont to Port-Cartier railway. As part of this mandate, Structura provided the services of bridge engineers with solid experience in underwater inspections.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-inspection-refection-metropolitain-158-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Plans and estimates for the Metropolitan repair work<\/h4>\r\n<p>Montr\u00e9alFrom 2018 to 2020, Structura took part in a consortium to complete design studies and plans and estimates for the repair work on the A-40 between A-520 and Provencher Boulevard in Montr\u00e9al. Structura produced a digital data collection system and performed damage surveys of the foundation units, intrados and expansion joints of the elevated structures.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-inspection-sous-marine-pjcci-167-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Underwater inspection of six JCCBI bridges including the Champlain Bridge, the Ice Control Structure and the Jacques Cartier Bridge<\/h4>\r\n<p>Montr\u00e9al and South ShoreFrom 2015 to 2018, Structura performed underwater inspections at the Champlain Bridge, the Jacques\u00a0Cartier Bridge, the Bypass Bridge, and the Champlain Bridge Ice Control Structure (including its wharf). Services provided by Structura included supervision of the concrete core-sampling work and participation in the development of specific criteria for the inspection of the Ice Control Structure piers.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-inspection-ile-aux-tourtes-84-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Damage survey on the \u00cele-aux-Tourtes Bridge<\/h4>\r\n<p>Montr\u00e9alIn 2015, the MTQ entrusted Structura with the damage survey of the auxiliary girders and certain interior girders of the \u00cele-aux-Tourtes Bridge. This bridge allows Highway\u00a040 to cross the Ottawa River at the western end of the Island of Montr\u00e9al. It took less than a month to complete the inspection using a mobile platform and a team of inspectors dedicated to the project.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-inspection-pont-concorde-42-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Inspection of the Concorde Bridge<\/h4>\r\n<p>Montr\u00e9alIn 2012, the Ville de Montr\u00e9al entrusted Structura with the inspection of the Concorde Bridge. Spanning 690\u00a0metres across the St. Lawrence River, this bridge is one of the most important structures under the city&#8217;s responsibility. Engineers inspected the interior of the triple caisson with confined space access methods, and the exterior with a mobile platform.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-inspection-pont-champlain-28-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>General and detailed inspection of the Champlain Bridge<\/h4>\r\n<p>Montr\u00e9al et BrossardFrom 2012 to 2015, Structura participated in hands-on inspections of the Champlain Bridge&#8217;s steel superstructure and 100 prestressed concrete auxiliary girders, using its articulating boom lifts and rope access techniques. Structura&#8217;s sustained efforts provided constant monitoring of the structure and led to the installation of a &#8220;super beam.&#8221;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-inspection-ponts-st-laurent-17-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Inspection of Bridges 7A and 7B crossing the St. Lawrence Seaway<\/h4>\r\n<p>Montr\u00e9alIn 2012, the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation mandated Structura to perform a hands-on inspection of the towers of Bridges\u00a07A and 7B. The inspection was carried out using rope access techniques in winter conditions and without obstructing rail traffic on the bridge.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3>Assessment of the load-carrying capacity of the Des Sources footbridge<\/h3>\r\n<h4>City of Pointe-Claire<\/h4>\r\n<p>Since 2017, Structura has been performing the annual inspection and monitoring of the Sources footbridge in Pointe-Claire. The bridge was built in the late 1960s and spans Highway\u00a020 and the CN and CP railways.<\/p>\r\n<p>Structura conducted an extensive damage survey using bucket trucks and rope access techniques. The load-carrying capacity assessment, achieved with 3D models, made it possible to issue recommendations and intervention scenarios to extend the footbridge&#8217;s life.<\/p>\r\n<ul data-height=\"390\" data-width=\"390\" data-shape=\"square\">\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-evaluation-pont-reed-seguin-195-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>General inspection and assessment of the load-carrying capacity of the Pont Reed-S\u00e9guin<\/h4>\r\n<p>L&#8217;AssomptionFrom 2017 to 2020, the Structura team performed the general and underwater inspection of the Pont Reed-S\u00e9guin, using a bucket truck, rope access techniques and scuba divers. Structura conducted the capacity assessment, made recommendations and drafted a maintenance plan and preliminary design to reconstruct the footbridges.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-evaluation-pont-barrage-cabonga-141-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Load-carrying capacity assessment of the Cabonga Dam and preliminary reconstruction design.<\/h4>\r\n<p>Cabonga Reservoir, OutaouaisIn 2019, Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec mandated Structura to perform the load-carrying capacity assessment of the Cabonga Dam. Structura performed a complete dimensional survey, a georadar inspection, observation windows and a damage survey on all 10\u00a0spans of the structure. Structura produced a preliminary design to increase the deck&#8217;s capacity.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-evaluation-embarcadere-traversier-qc-147-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Load-carrying capacity assessment of the STQ ferry landings<\/h4>\r\n<p>QuebecSince 2018, Structura and its partners have been mandated to define an asset maintenance program and decide on the condition of STQ&#8217;s ferry landings across Quebec. Structura has been providing inspection and capacity assessment services for these mobile structures. It has also been conducting non-destructive testing programs and preparing plans and estimates for corrective work.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3>Design of the footbridge and lookout at Parc-nature de la Pointe-aux-Prairies<\/h3>\r\n<h4>Montr\u00e9al<\/h4>\r\n<p>From 2012 to 2017, Structura assisted the Ville de Montr\u00e9al in the design and construction of the footbridge and lookout at Parc-nature de la Pointe-aux-Prairies. The footbridge crosses a wetland rich in diversity and provides access to the birdwatching lookout.<\/p>\r\n<p>In addition to contributing to the architectural concept, Structura also designed and detailed both structures. The design combines elements of sustainability and comfort with clean lines and aesthetics to blend harmoniously into the landscape. This project was a 2018\u00a0finalist for the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) Awards of Excellence.<\/p>\r\n<ul data-height=\"390\" data-width=\"390\" data-shape=\"square\">\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-conception-parc-nature-bois-ile-bizzard-23-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Design of the walkway at the Parc-nature du Bois-de-L&#8217;\u00cele Bizard<\/h4>\r\n<p>Montr\u00e9alFrom 2012 to 2015, Structura assisted the Ville de Montr\u00e9al in the design and construction of a walkway in the Parc-nature du Bois-de-L&#8217;\u00cele Bizard. The design aimed to blend into the landscape with clean lines and materials such as wood and weathering steel. The walkway is designed to support a heavy build-up of snow for cross-country skiing.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-conception-clinique-api-019-structura-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Expansion of the API Clinic<\/h4>\r\n<p>LavalIn 2013, Structura designed the expansion of the API Clinic in Laval. This complex and innovative project received two awards of excellence from the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-conception-smartcenter-blainville-068-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Design at the Blainville SmartCenters<\/h4>\r\n<p>BlainvilleIn 2014, Structura completed the design of a SmartCenters commercial building of about 10,000\u00a0square feet in Blainville. To accommodate the project&#8217;s specific architectural requirements, the building was designed without any bracing on the front and with cantilevered canopies.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3>Assessment of the load-carrying capacity of the Matala Bridge Dam<\/h3>\r\n<h4>Matala, Angola<\/h4>\r\n<p>In 2012, Structura performed a detailed inspection of the Matala Bridge Dam to assess its load-carrying capacity. The Matala Bridge is one of the main transportation links crossing the Cunene, a major Angolan river.<\/p>\r\n<p>This type of structure is usually inspected using buckets, but transporting this equipment in this remote area of Angola was almost impossible. Access using the twin rope technique was thus favoured as the necessary equipment could be transported easily by plane. In four weeks, the team of six inspectors and rope access technicians completed a detailed inspection and dimensional survey of the structure&#8217;s 97\u00a0spans.<\/p>\r\n<p>The mandate also included studying the behaviour of support devices and expansion joints, and issuing recommendations for maintenance and repair work<\/p>\r\n<ul data-height=\"390\" data-width=\"390\" data-shape=\"square\">\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-international-perimetre-irrigation-204-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Construction of irrigated areas on six-hectare units<\/h4>\r\n<p>Collines Department, BeninSince 2019, Structura has been providing engineering service to CECI as part of the Supporting Women Entrepreneurship in the Rice Industry Project in Benin. Structura validated the design and provided project management for the drilling of wells and the installation of solar-powered irrigation systems on 24\u00a0hectares in four communes.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-international-usine-transformation-riz-benin-204-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Construction of six rice processing plants<\/h4>\r\n<p>Collines Department, BeninSince 2020, Structura has been providing engineering service to CECI as part of the Supporting Women Entrepreneurship in the Rice Industry Project in Benin. Structura designed six plants that can process a total of 3,000\u00a0tonnes of rice annually. Structura&#8217;s approach has made it possible to optimize the use of the funds invested while promoting development on a human scale.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-internation-ambassade-france-haiti-132-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Structural design of the French Embassy in Haiti<\/h4>\r\n<p>Port-au-Prince, Ha\u00eftiIn 2015, \u00c6difica, Kay Consulting and Structura joined forces to rebuild the main building and annexes of the French Embassy in Port-au-Prince. Structura created this earthquake-resistant design with a <em>civil protection <\/em>level of durability exceeding 100\u00a0years, even under exceptional stresses such as hurricanes and explosions (<em>blast resistant<\/em>).<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-international-viaduc-delmas-093-2-structura-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Expertise during the construction of the Delmas viaduct<\/h4>\r\n<p>Port-au-Prince, Ha\u00eftiIn 2014 and 2015, Structura was mandated for specialized expertise in welding and in the assembly of steel structures in order to assist the monitoring team during the critical construction phases of the Delmas viaduct, located at the centre of one of Haiti&#8217;s busiest intersections. Two missions were carried out, and each time Structura mobilized teams in Haiti within 24\u00a0hours.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-international-commissariat-haiti-33-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Design of four police stations in Haiti<\/h4>\r\n<p>L\u00e9ogane, Grand-Go\u00e2ve, C\u00f4te-de-Fer et Gressier, Ha\u00eftiIn 2012, in partnership with CECI, Structura designed and provided monitoring support for the reconstruction of police stations in L\u00e9og\u00e2ne, Grand-Go\u00e2ve, C\u00f4te-de-Fer and Gressier. Structura developed a <em>civil protection <\/em>level seismic design according to the National Building Code (NBC) and the rules in place in Haiti, and developed and an accelerated design-build to reduce costs.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-international-ecole-duverger-haiti-46-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Construction of the Duverger Community School<\/h4>\r\n<p>Duverger, Ha\u00eftiFrom 2012 to 2014, Structura designed and led the construction of the Duverger School in Haiti-a model for community development. The school is located in the mountains, isolated and difficult to access. It has eight classrooms (each one seating 25\u00a0students), an administrative building, a washroom, a kitchen and an auditorium. The project was completed on time and on budget, and provided specialized training for local workers.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3>Survey of concrete pathology on the Skylon Tower<\/h3>\r\n<h4>Niagara Falls, Ontario<\/h4>\r\n<p>In 2013, Structura&#8217;s team performed a survey on the Skylon Tower in Niagara as part K\u00e4rcher&#8217;s global project to demonstrate the quality of their products in extreme locations. Suspended at a height of 160\u00a0metres, Structura&#8217;s engineers performed a multitude of tests on the concrete to assess the structure&#8217;s condition.<\/p>\r\n<ul data-height=\"390\" data-width=\"390\" data-shape=\"square\">\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-expertises-acierie-toiture-arcelormittal-197-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Inspection of the roof structure at the ArcelorMittal steel plant<\/h4>\r\n<p>Contrec\u0153urIn 2018, ArcelorMittal mandated Structura to inspect and assess the roof at the Contrec\u0153ur steel mill (70,000\u00a0square metres). Structura created a digital, risk-based asset management system to incorporate inspection data and prioritize recommendations according to safety, repair costs and production impacts.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/structura.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/photo-projets-expertises-pont-tunnel-louis-hippolyte-lafontaine-15-structura.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<h4>Monitoring of the louvre removal work at the Lafontaine Tunnel<\/h4>\r\n<p>Montr\u00e9alIn 2012 and 2013, the MTQ mandated Structura to monitor the removal of louvres from the Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine Bridge-Tunnel. Structura worked closely with the MTQ and the contractor to find appropriate solutions for accelerating the work and allowing the tunnel to reopen to traffic on Christmas Eve.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Structura carries out inspections, load bearing capacity assessments, designs and legal or technical expertise.
