Profile | Inspection and assessment
The inspection and assessment engineer will join a team of engineers specializing in bridges. The engineer’s main mission will be to carry out inspection and assessment projects, from the mandate’s planning to report delivery.
They will be actively involved in projects located mainly in the Greater Montréal area, for the Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ), the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI), municipalities and private structures.
Responsibilities
- Participate in project management, plan and coordinate inspections with all stakeholders
- Conduct general and detailed inspections and damage surveys on bridges and other structures
- Model structures to assess their carrying capacity
- Write inspection, evaluation, technical and other study reports
- Present technical information and results to clients
- Participate in the organization’s continuous improvement process by establishing procedures, creating computer tools and inspection tools, and producing internal training documents
- Prepare tenders, including planning and cost estimates
- Take part in project start-up meetings with clients
Profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering or construction engineering
- Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec
- Relevant experience of at least five (5) years of in inspection or assessment of bridges
- Experience in consulting engineering
- Knowledge of the Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) standards and procedures
- Training in inspection, maintenance and design of MTQ structures, an asset
- Knowledge of Visual Design or SAFI structure analysis software
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Project
- Advanced understanding of structural behaviour and material degradation
- Ability to write technical reports and excellent command of French
- Comfort with work in heights and in confined spaces
- Valid driver’s licence
- Construction site safety course (ASP)
- Leadership, problem-solving, attention to details, professionalism and ability to communicate with clients
- Interest in occasional outdoor work and travel
